HMC Project

I became involved with this project because of my mom…

Looking to improve & expand their facility, the Hillsboro Medical Center Foundation began exploring what this should look like, what it should include and how it would be paid for.  What they set out to create was a completely new nursing home, a new addition of assisted living rooms, a new swing/therapy wing, a new hospital wing and a new admistrative wing – a 12.5 million project.  The community commitment to the project…  1.5 million.  Wow!  Talk about ambitious. Quite an undertaking for a community of around 1500.  Continue Reading »

George & Tom's Place

George & Tom's Place

Because my mind tends to think in storyline fashion, it didn’t take long for me to realize that I’d be photographing this project in that same way in order for it to make sense.  So, just like in our homes we tend to group things together, it seemed the same should apply here.  Continue Reading »

Flowers.  Waking in the morning to the sunlight hitting their pretty petals.  The smell of their aroma in the early evening hours.  Maybe it’s because here in North Dakota we simply have relatively fewer days to appreciate them, and that after the long winter’s left us they seem particularly lovely, reminding us in their very quiet way that life sustains and renews.  Whatever the case, it’s hard not to love a beautiful prairie flower.  Continue Reading »

I love Lowell’s barn.  Talk about character.

I’d stopped in one afternoon to see if Lowell would mind if I snooped around to catch some images of the barn.  Fine, fine – he says…  but, you should get some pictures with the dog!  Oh sure.  I’m remembering the 8 out of 10 dogs that I’ve photographed over the years that just really had other priorities  than  having their picture taken! and thinking… you bet – this’ll work out.  Boy, was I surprised!  She and I played fetch for an hour or so – she had a grand time and I caught some great images.  She makes the image for me – that sense of yesterday overlapped with today.  The continuance of life.  What a smart dog!

Out here in rural North Dakota, the sight of wheat fields as they change from a soft and gentle green to briliant and vibrant gold is both beautiful and melencholy.  While we so enjoy the colors and aroma in the air, we also know it means the end of another summer and another season.  Continue Reading »

HPF

The Hillsboro Preservation Foundation is one of the newest organizations in Hillsboro. This non-profit was created to initially save and preserve our wonderful Traill Theater. The theater has been shut down since the late 60s or early 70s and has definitely seen better days, but even in it’s current state, the Traill is an icon of Main Street. It’s just simply a fantastic building from such a nostalgic time period.  Continue Reading »

NILMDTS

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.

This is an incredible organization of volunteer photographers dedicated to providing beautiful and meaningful images for families faced with the loss of an infant.  Sounds a little morbid, I know, but it is really some of the most amazing work I’ve ever had the privilege of doing.  Continue Reading »

HBA

HBA – short for the Hillsboro Business Association – is a group of business people in and around the Hillsboro area.  I became involved in the organization about 6 years ago, and have been an active participant ever since.  The purpose of the HBA is to support, encourage and enhance business in Hillsboro.  We’ve been finding in more recent years that the organization plays a pretty important role in the community as a whole and we’ve taken on projects and events that aren’t necessarily related to just business – the idea being that you take care of your community and the community will take care of you.  Continue Reading »
