HBA – short for the Hillsboro Business Association – is a group of business people in and around the Hillsboro area. I became involved in the organization about 6 years ago, and have been an active participant ever since. The purpose of the HBA is to support, encourage and enhance business in Hillsboro. We’ve been finding in more recent years that the organization plays a pretty important role in the community as a whole and we’ve taken on projects and events that aren’t necessarily related to just business – the idea being that you take care of your community and the community will take care of you.
I love Hillsboro. My dad moved us there in 1975 when I was a freshman in high school. We’d moved from Billings, MT – so I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the fact that he’d moved us to the flattest country I’d ever seen in my life! I lived in Hillsboro until 1983 and then moved back in the winter of 1995. It was when we moved back that I realized just how much I loved this town, it’s people and – yes! – even this flat countryside. So, when asked to join the business association, it seemed like a natural fit and a way to contribute to my community. I believe pretty strongly that if a person is going to belong to something, that they need to also be a participant – so I do try to be a positive influence with the group.
This is a good group of committed and active business people. I’m proud to be a member and am proud of their ability to rise up when needed and asked and in their ability to embrace the future. So, we’re learning together and working towards tomorrow – not just for our businesses, but for our community as well.
